Jan Yoors
Jan Yoors (1922–1977, Antwerpen – New York) was een Vlaams-Amerikaans kunstenaar, schrijver en fotograaf. Als kind leefde hij bij een Roma-gemeenschap, wat een blijvende invloed had op zijn wereldbeeld. Na WOII vestigde hij zich in New York, waar hij wandtapijten ontwierp, fotografie beoefende en schreef. Zijn textielkunst evolueerde van figuratief naar abstract en werd internationaal erkend. Zijn fotografisch werk documenteert het multiculturele stadsleven en sociale ongelijkheid. In 2019 verwierf de PASfoundation een unieke reeks vintage foto’s van Yoors, die zowel zijn humanistische blik als grafische kracht belichamen.
